Aldowa: New Hero 2015 VNO-NCW Rotterdam region
Facade builder Aldowa was acclaimed as the New Hero 2015 in the Rotterdam region on 8 December 2015. Company owners and directors Jan Boom and Allard Droste received the award from the hands of mayor Aboutaleb in the town hall during the end-of-year meeting of VNO-NCW, Rotterdam region.
‘Aldowa is a thoroughly sound cladding business, characterised by special applications in building and infrastructure. An innovator within a relatively conservative industry, especially because the company has a flat organisational structure in which all employees are involved in innovation as well as in the securing of orders’; this is how jury chairman Diederik van Dommelen explained the choice of Aldowa. ‘The business has a major impact on our city, as a most impressive innovative force with an excellent financial base.’
Aldowa was responsible for the ceiling of the Markthal, which has been described as a contemporary version of the Sistine Chapel.
Ten companies have contended for the award throughout the past year: Aldowa, Atelier van Lieshout, Mach3Builders, Magnet.me, Parx Plastics and Additives, Skycap Netherlands, Spark design & innovation, Symbid and VirtualMedSchool. Boom en Droste are particularly proud of the fact that Aldowa was selected as New Hero from this group of very strong businesses. Droste: ‘All the partners and employees of Aldowa are new heroes, because together we make dreams come true. The entire team are very proud of being shown such appreciation and all at Aldowa can share the title ‘New Heroes 2015’ with justified pride.’
The Rotterdam region of VNO-NCW has organised the annual New Heroes contest since 2013, providing an arena for the winners to inspire others with their vision, passion and superior entrepreneurial skills. The New Heroes are the innovators and catalysts of corporate life.
